About the Role
aFit is seeking a Data Engineer to support a State of Indiana government organization that serves as a centralized data and analytics hub supporting data-driven decision making and improved public services across the state. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity based in Indianapolis, offering the chance to work with enterprise-scale data initiatives that influence multiple agencies and stakeholders.
In this role, you will design and implement enterprise data architecture solutions while supporting data governance frameworks, integration strategies, and long-term data management initiatives. You will collaborate with both technical and business teams to ensure data is reliable, accessible, secure, and aligned with organizational goals.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and a desire to grow within a highly collaborative team environment.
What You'll Do
Data Engineering & Integration
Build reliable, scalable data solutions that connect systems and make information more accessible.
- Design, develop, and support enterprise data solutions and integration workflows.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that move and transform data across systems.
- Work within Microsoft Azure and Azure Databricks environments.
- Integrate data from multiple applications, databases, and enterprise platforms.
- Support data warehousing and analytics environments.
- Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing data solutions.
Data Modeling & Architecture
Help shape how enterprise data is structured, stored, and used.
- Develop and maintain logical and physical data models.
- Contribute to enterprise data architecture and technical design decisions.
- Design solutions that support scalability, performance, security, and accessibility.
- Help modernize legacy data environments and support cloud migration initiatives.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions based on technical and business needs.
Data Quality & Governance
Help ensure enterprise data is reliable, consistent, and useful.
- Support data quality, integrity, consistency, and availability across systems.
- Contribute to data governance and data management standards.
- Support metadata management, stewardship, and documentation initiatives.
- Partner with stakeholders to identify and resolve data-related challenges.
- Help establish repeatable standards and best practices for enterprise data.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
Connect technical solutions with real business needs.
- Partner with technical teams, business stakeholders, and organizational leaders.
- Translate business requirements into practical data solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide technical guidance and contribute to project planning and implementation.
- Support long-term data modernization and enterprise technology initiatives.
